Overview

What this pathway requires

The Temporary Foreign Worker Program allows Canadian employers to hire foreign workers for temporary jobs when qualified Canadians or permanent residents are not available. Service Canada assesses whether the labour-market impact is positive or neutral.

How we structure the file

  • Identify the correct LMIA stream
  • Review wage, duties and job requirements
  • Plan recruitment and retain evidence
  • Prepare business legitimacy and compliance documents
  • Coordinate the worker’s permit application after a decision

Common application directions

High-wage positions

Recruitment, transition planning and wage requirements apply according to current rules.

Low-wage positions

Caps, recruitment duration and regional restrictions may affect eligibility.

Global Talent Stream

A specialized stream may apply to eligible occupations or designated referrals.

After the LMIA

The foreign worker normally submits a separate work-permit application using the employer documents.
